What should board outline and drill data show?

The board profile, cutouts, slots, holes, plating status, units, and critical tolerances must agree across the fabrication data and drawing.

Direct answer

Provide one unambiguous finished-board profile and identify internal cutouts, slots, scoring or routing needs, plated and non-plated holes, finished-hole requirements, and critical tolerances. Drill data and the fabrication drawing should agree.

Profile checks

Duplicate or conflicting outline layers create avoidable CAM questions. State whether the data describes the finished board, a customer panel, or both.

  • Closed external profile and clearly separated internal cutouts
  • Finished dimensions and critical edge tolerances
  • Routing, V-score, tab, or edge-bevel requirements
  • Edge plating or castellated-hole requirements where applicable

Drill checks

Separate or clearly identify plated and non-plated holes. Call out finished-hole size when it controls the requirement, plus slots, countersinks, counterbores, controlled depth, or back-drill features.

  • Units and coordinate origin
  • Tool sizes and plating status
  • Slot width and end geometry
  • Special tolerance or depth requirement
  • Matching hole count between data and drawing

Next useful step

Final capability, commercial terms, and project records are confirmed against the actual RFQ and written project documents.
